Last weekend I headed down to Baltimore for a wedding and I was very strategic with my packing– after all I was going for just one night. Amidst all the clothing, shoes, and makeup– I brought along my trusty Moroccan Oil Luminous Hairspray. I purchased this in May after getting my hair done for another wedding ( I know, I’ve been a busy girl) after asking the hairstylist for a hairspray recommendation that won’t leave behind a hard or sticky residue. She recommended that I try Moroccan Oil’s hairspray because she claimed it was a miracle product- and after using it a few times- I have to agree with her!
Okay so let me tell you why this product is so awesome. First off this hairspray really locks in your style and add smoothness and shine to your hair. It tames flyways and frizz, and best of all it leaves your hair feeling touchably soft. A lot of hairsprays claim to be “light” finishing sprays, but this one takes the cake! It doesn’t leave behind that “crunch” that other traditional hairsprays do. Also it smells just like their hair oil which I happen to love!
I will forever purchase this hairspray as it will always holds a spot in my beauty cabinet. Have you tried this product before– we love to hear some of your thoughts! Til next time,
If you know me- I have two weak spots: Lipstick and nail polish. I have a crazy amount of both and my collection keeps growing. Now that summer has officially ended, I am slowly transitioning to dark polish and lip products. However the first couple of weeks of September I really like to play both sides of the seasons by wearing both dark and light colors. If you’re looking to invest in a single lip product I recommend Chanel’s Rouge Coco Shine in Bonheur. Yes, this lipstick is going to cost you 35 bucks a pop-but I absolutely love this product.
Now, this product is great because it doesn’t leave behind a matte finish nor will settle into the fine lines on your lips. The formula glides on for easy application and does leave your lips feeling pretty hydrated. I happen to love this color because it’s a rich berry plum that is perfect for day or night. I think it will look beautiful on any skin tone because it really enhances the natural hue of your lips. This lipstick is super easy to wear so slap this bad boy on before a happy hour or for a night out on the town!

As the summer ends (ah- cue sad face) my hair needs some serious TLC. In effort to do this, I decided to chop off my hair– well not all of it– but 5 inches of it. So now my hair falls to around my shoulders, and let me tell you- my hair feels a thousand times better. In order to upkeep this new healthy ‘do, I have started used Amika’s Nourishing Mask.
I tend not to venture into trying new hair products because I like what I like- and I’ve been liking the same things for the last three years. So when I was told by my friend that Amika’s hair mask is a game changer- I was a bit hesitant. I decided to purchase it off the Birchbox website and let me tell you– she was right, it is a game changer.
First off, this mask is super easy to use. Just apply a generous amount after shampooing and let it sit for 2 to 5 minutes. Then rinse thoroughly and you’re done! I was able to notice a difference in the texture of my hair right away. Once my hair dried, it felt significantly softer and shinier which is largely due to it’s main ingredient: sea buckthorn berry. The essential oil from the sea buckthorn berry fortifies and smooths the hair shaft.
It can be used as a daily conditioner or as a weekly treatment– like I do. It has a very pleasant smell– very fresh and clean. I cannot say enough great things about this mask! So if you’re in the market for an amazing hair mask- I would definitely give this one a try!
Til next time,
So this post is a bit different because I finally convinced by boyfriend, Alex, to write a little something on a hair product I recently gave him. So let’s jump into it:
“Truman’s Gentlemen’s Groomers” is a new take on the old-fashioned men’s shave and grooming shops. The look and feel of their two Manhattan barbershops is a mix of Boardwalk Empire-style sophistication and modern luxury. This theme is continued with their new line of men’s grooming products, which feature a stout English Bulldog wearing a pointed crown on the bottle. The “Finisher” is, as you might guess, the last stage of a three-product grooming line, which includes shaving cream (the “Protector”), Shampoo (the “Cleaner”), and, of course, control paste (the “Finisher”). These are the three essentials of men’s grooming according to Truman’s, and I happen to pretty much agree – just don’t forget about conditioner.
My hair is unruly and this is partially my fault since a haircut is a bit overdue. It is also very much the fault of my genetics. My hair has been described as anything from “course” and “stiff” to my favorite, “whoa, this feels like a brillo pad”. Therefore, in order to show up for work without looking like Doc Brown, I am forced to seek assistance.
The product itself is packaged nicely, providing 2.5 fl. oz. in a tall cylindrical bottle with a “pump” function at the top. I found this “pump” to be quite useful. Over time – I have had the “Finisher” for two weeks now – I became very accustomed to the timing and pressure necessary to get my desired amount of paste.
The paste is actually very effective. As I have alluded to throughout this post, my hair can be difficult to shape and style. For the first week with this grooming cream my hair was quite long, but Truman’s did its job through an entire workday and late night dinners – all while I was using the recommended “two pumps” for thick hair. For those of you with more manageable hair you should get the same effectiveness with less cream.
The product has a very subtle, clean smell. Just enough to let you know there is something there but not enough to announce your presence to the entire subway car. The scent doesn’t linger and is likely gone after the first hour or so of wear. One of the things I enjoy most about Truman’s came as a surprise. By the end of the day my hair was – for the most part – where I left it in the morning, without the brittle or greasy feeling that often comes from using other products. The cream seems to absorb into my hair naturally during the course of the day, leaving me with healthier looking hair.
I would recommend this to guys hoping to give their hair more shape while adding a bit of healthy shine, but who don’t want to go full Gordon Gekko with a tub of gel. Using Truman’s, my hair looked much more natural than it has with other creams and gels that I have used previously, giving me an understated professional look which better fits my style. For $18 this product is priced right and should last you a few months with once a day use.
Until next time,
If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million time- I AM A NAIL POLISH ADDICT! I was recently introduced to Nails Inc’s Gel Effect Polish and ever since I have been hooked! I have been sporting the shades Covent Gardens Place and Regents Place a lot this summer. So let me tell you why I’ve been loving this particular line of polish– here we go!
Anytime I test out nail polish I look a three factors: application, finish and durability/longevity.
- Application-the gel-finish takes two coats to become opaque and it goes on very smoothly.
- Finish-I happen to love the gel texture because the finish is super shiny compared to their basic nail polish line. Just out of pure habit I add a top coat, but you don’t really need one.
- Durability/Longevity- I am happy to report that this polish lasted a WEEK before it chipped. I tend to wear my nails shorter so if you have longer one- you may chip them a bit sooner.
So there you go- my review on Nails Inc Gel Effect Polish! I would love you know if you’ve tried this line and your thoughts about it. Don’t forget to follow us on Twitter at @passtherouge and check us out on Instagram at passtherouge for more!
We don’t know about you but one of our favorite things to do together is shop. So it was a given when Clyde’s on Madison invited us for a beauty shopping trip. For those who are unfamiliar with Clyde’s, it is an old school French pharmacy that is over 50 years old! It is a one stop-shop for all your beauty needs ranging from men’s grooming items to nail polish to skincare. Since they are located on the Upper East Side’s prestigious Madison avenue- don’t be surprised if you see Tom Hanks, Drew Barrymore or Derek Jeter strolling around the store. Our family has been shopping there for many years, so we were thrilled to be invited to meet the staff and shop for some of our beauty favorites.
Shopping is always the most fun for us when we get to do it with our friends, which is why we wanted to bring you along on our shopping adventure. So here’s a look at some of the goodies we got at Clyde’s:
- We have been raving about Coola products for the last year so we were so excited to try out their Lavender Chamomile Body Lotion Bar. We use this bar by warming it up in our hands for a few seconds and then apply it to our elbows, knees, cuticles-or wherever else you like. Also the scent is out of this world-it feels like you are walking through a field of lavender.
- We have been eyeing Lipstick Queen’s products for over a year now. This brand is flying off the shelves at Clyde’s and rightfully so! Luckily, we were able to snatch up the ever popular Hello Sailor which is a navy blue sheer lipstick that leaves behind a cool berry tint to your lips. Best of all, the lipstick is super moisturizing and hydrating because it has Vitamin E in it.
- We love the makeup brand, Too Faced- we have been long time fans. We tried their two top selling mascaras: It’s Better Than Sex and Lashgasm. Both of these products worked amazingly well in different ways. It’s Better Than Sex gives you those “va-va-va-voom” lashes, while Lashgasm really separated and lengthened your them. We also tried their Shadow Insurance range which really keeps our eyeshadows in place but also can be used alone for a shimmery wash of color.
- A company called Pure Blends came out with a color depositing shampoo which we had to try. We also picked up the leave-in conditioner. The product claims to brighten and tone color-treated hair while repairing it– and it definitely did all of those things. We were so happy with the results as it really got the brassiness out of our hair color.
- I was looking for a summer scent when I came across Kat Burki’s White Poppy & Peony. As soon as I smelled it I instantly knew this was a summer staple! I love that it has light, musky, and floral notes.
Okay guys, here is where it gets good! The wonderful people at Clyde’s have offered you all 10% off any purchase you make at Clyde’s– all you have to do is mention Pass the Rouge. Anyone can take advantage of this promo- even if you don’t live in New York City- you can simply place an online orders through email@example.com. Below are some quick recommendations of some of our favorites that you can find at Clyde’s:
- Deborah Lippman nail polish in Amazing Grace, and Lara’s Theme
- Essie nail polish in Butler Please, and Mint Candy Apple.
- Klorane Gentle Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk
- Clark’s Botanicals in Ultra Rich Lip Treatment in Because I Love You
- Caudalie Beauty Elixir
- BY TERRY Aqua Print Eyeshadow 1- Darling Muse
Until Next Time,
I’m not going to deny it– I love being in the sun. Nothing makes me happier than laying by the pool or beach on a beautiful summer day. Don’t worry- I make sure to lather myself in sunscreen with at least SPF 30! I love sporting a nice healthy tan over the summer and I do try my best to maintain it.
This leads me to the topic of this post- how to maintain your suntan, so let’s jump into it! I think it’s important to exfoliate your body before you decide to lay out in the sun. (We like to use our favorite body wash with an loofah to get rid of any dead skin.) In order to extend the “life” of our tan- we use the following products to help ensure our glowing tan lasts until September:
Avene After-Sun Care Lotion: I purchased this lotion while in Cannes this summer because I notice that it was almost sold out in every pharmacy I went to– I can see why now! Here’s the 411 on this lotion: it’s a super light cream that really nourishes and cools your skin. I love that it’s non-greasy and has a quick-absorbing formula that really penetrates the layers of your skin. Best of all- it’s part of their ever famous Avène Thermal Spring Water line which helps soothe and soften your skin.
Coola Environmental Repair Plus Radical Recovery After-Sun Lotion: This aftersun lotion is a Birchbox find for me. I was in search for an aftersun moisturizer last winter as I prepared for my trip to Hawaii- and I decided to try this one. I happen to love this particular lotion and use it during the beginning stages of my tan (or sunburn depending how diligent I am with my sunscreen) because it really nourishes and rehydrates. It instantly cools my skin and leaves behind the most amazing tropical scent. Needless to say, this lotion will always have a place in my beauty cabinet.
Jergens Natural Glow Daily Firming Lotion: Okay, I know what you’re thinking- this lotion isn’t really for aftersun exposure. I tend to use this lotion at the end of summer–as the summer winds down I want to maintain a certain level of my tan and this product allows me to do so. This is a really safe and foolproof way to extend and maintain your tan. Beware: there is super super fine shimmer in this product.
So there you have it my three go-to products that I use to help maintain my suntan. I just want to stress the importance of making sure you all wear some form of SPF while in the sun — trust me, your skin will thank you in 20 years! I would love to know what summer beauty favorites you’ve been using– so tweet us at @passtherouge and check us out on Instagram at passtherouge for more!
Til next time!
We’ve all heard the old wives tales about how to deal with certain stains and other fashion mishaps- more often than not these “theories” never really seem to work. Sometimes it takes more than bottled seltzer water to take out a nasty stain.
So we were lucky enough to receive Fashion First Aid’s Shoe Done It kit that gave us the best (scientific) methods to help us deal with the worst-case scenarios (& no freaking out necessary!). Fashion First Aid provides various kits which supply innovative solutions to avoid fashion mishaps ranging from helping you break in a new pair of heels from to sticking pockets onto your favorite dress! Personally, I have major issues with finding comfortable shoes so I’m always carrying around Band-Aid’s in case a (not so pleasant) blister decides to appear. This leads me to why I happen to love their Shoe Done It kit so much. This kit provides you with a whole range of fun items which include Heel Seals: adhesive sole savers, Boot Stay: adhesive sag preventers, Flatliners: footwear odor killers, Ped Pens: shoe touch-up markers, Sole Glow: clean & shine shoe sponge, Kung Shoe Grip: inside/outside nonslip, WunderCover: tattoo & skin shields, and lastly, Heel of Steel: impenetrable heel shields. Honestly this kit has gotten me out of tons of binds over the last few months. My favorite is the Kung Shoe Grip which has become my new best friend- it has helped me avoid countless trips and slips.
Michelle recently went to a wedding and brought along Heel Seals in her purse. She was wearing super high heels–that she did NOT break in at all–and wanted to avoid any sort of foot problems during the evening. After all, nothing is worse than your feet killing you after a long night of dancing- lucky for her she brought along these little gems. By the end of the night she was sharing her little shoe tip with all the other female guests.
We also received the most practical book ever-The Dirty Side of Fashion. The book describes itself as “Your light and upbeat guide to an otherwise filthy subject” which is exactly what it is. Ever hear of a Knicker Sticker? Button wrappers? Garment Guard? Or a Crotch Shot? This book gives us the run down on how to avoid the worst, most embarrassing clothing issues- and if they happen what to do about it. The Dirty Side of Fashion gives us in depth steps on how to get rif of specific stains like sweat, deodorant, odor, and certain proteins. I’m definitely looking at my laundry in a whole new light.
Disclaimer: These products were gifted to us. Our opinions are all our own.
I’m always on the hunt for the perfect sunscreen. I love being outside and I plan on taking full advantage of the outdoors this summer. Being out in the sun can take a toll on your skin so it’s super important to wear sunscreen. Many people think if they wear sunscreen they won’t get a tan- this is completely FALSE! Sunscreen acts as a barrier to protect your skin from the harmful UVA/UVB rays- your skin will thank you long terms as it also decreases signs of aging. So make sure to slather some sunscreen on before you head out this summer.
On a recent trip to Clyde’s on Madison, I got my hands on MD Solar Sciences’ Mineral Creme SPF 30. I was told that this was one of the most popular and effective sunscreens currently on the market- so I, of course, had to try it.
When I first applied it to my face, I was definitely able to tell it had a mineral based texture. It is extremely lightweight which I happen to love because it didn’t leave behind a sticky residue on my face. Another HUGE plus is the scent- it doesn’t have one! It left my skin with an even, matte finish. I would not recommend using this product on your body as it will leave ball up from sweat and seawater- but you should be fine as long as you just apply it to your face.
I will be sticking with this sunscreen this summer. I would love to hear of your summertime must haves–I’m always looking to try new products. Follow us on Instagram at twitter at @passtherouge and on Instagram at passtherouge for more beauty favorites.
